19 trans women have been reported murdered in 2015. 13 of these women were black; 17 were women of color.

Michigan is one of 18 states that do not include sexual orientation in their hate crimes law and one of 22 states that do not include gender identity or gender expression in their hate crimes law. This lack of coverage allows the suspects of anti-gay or anti-transgender acts to avoid accountability for the biases that motivated their crime.

Sommer Foster and Yvonne Siferd of Equality Michigan will speak about the status of hate crime legislation in Michigan, and the people that these unjust laws affect.

Lunch by Curry On will be served.
