Michigan Law OUTlaws

MLaw's LGBTQ+ Student Organization Since 1980

The Kevin E. Kennedy Memorial Gala (“Gayla”) is an annual event for the LGBTQ+ community and our allies to come together, reflect, and celebrate the progress made within our community here in Michigan and around the country. Named in honor of Kevin Kennedy (LAW '89), a late LGBTQ+ activist and lawyer, Gayla brings together advocacy and legal industry leaders, Michigan students, and the broader community under one roof.

Each year the recipient of the OUTLaws Public Service Fellowship is announced at the event. The fellowship is designed to support LGBTQ+ law students to pursue careers in the public interest or nonprofit sector, where they can contribute to and advocate for the interests of the LGBTQ+ community.
